- Can I expect to hear back from my Adoptee: NO. Our main intent is to provide our Adoptee's with Mail Call. There is nothing more gratifying to the soul than to hear your name called at Mail Call. There is nothing more comforting than to be able to pull out a letter when you are at your lowest and know that there is someone out there who does care about you. It is extremely important to realize that for most of our Veterans at home, this will be the first letter for them in many years. It takes time for them to adjust to the fact that someone does appreciate them and it takes time for them to learn to reciprocate in the experience. For our Deployed, it is very important to realize that their main goal at this time is to stay alive. If it means using their 'off time' to get rest instead of trying to respond back to all of your letters, then we stand behind that reasoning 100%. No matter the situation - you must know that what you are doing for our Veterans, both at home and overseas, is making a difference; one that will forever impact their lives for the better.
- Why cant I share my Adoptee's information with family and friends
: When approached by the VA as well as the Military about supporting their Veterans, it is a very big concern for them that we take all measures to ensure the security of those we support. We totally understand this and stand by their wishes. We will never supply our Adoptee's information to anyone other than their Adopters just as we do not share our Adopter's information.
- Why are we required to keep the Organization 'updated'
: First off, this allows us the opportunity in knowing that our Veterans are indeed being supported. By not keeping us updated, this makes us believe that you have went AWOL and therefore we will re-adopt those Veterans to ensure that they do not go without Mail Call. Secondly, we take every measure possible to keep YOU updated whenever we have information concerning your Adoptee. Following up with our Veterans at home and overseas is not only time consuming, but costly. By not keeping us updated, we cannot keep you updated and for those who do support our Veterans but do not keep us updated, you may possibly be shipping letters and packages to addresses that are no longer valid - or to Veterans who may have been injured, or worse...
- Are Care Packages required
: NO. We do ask that those who adopt Veterans at home to supply an 'introductory package' that will include SASE, Stationary, Pen and anything else that adopter chooses to send. The introductory package gives that Veteran a means to participate, if they choose. We do ask that all adopters send care packages on birthdays and holidays as it is medically proven that these dates are very depressing for most of our Veterans.
- Do I need to supply stamps to my Veteran overseas
: NO. Deployed are given free mailing for standard sized envelopes.
- Will it cost anything for me to apply
: NO. We do not charge any type of fee's to become an Angel 'n Camouflage.
- Am I guaranteed that I will receive a Veterans name upon application
: NO. We screen all applicants using a Verification Service along with telephone interviews. We reserve the right to deny any application. Whether you are approved or denied, you will be notified either way.
- How long does an application process take
: We ask to allow us at least 30 days to process your application although it does not normally take this long.
- Why do I have to wait 30 days to adopt a second Veteran
: This allows us the opportunity to ensure that your first Veteran, whether at home or overseas, is indeed being supported before considering you for a second adoption.
- Why does the Organization feel the need to stress you are not a dating service
: Because we are NOT a dating service; period! Our Veterans overseas need to concentrate on their safety and that of their brothers and sisters! Our Veterans at home need support, not solicitation!
- Why am I not allowed to adopt a Veteran at home from my own State
: This is our Policy, plain and simple.
- Am I allowed to request a male or female
: Yes, although it is not always guaranteed.
- Why do you not provide e-mail addresses of Veterans Overseas
: Our main intent is to provide Mail Call, not E-mail Call. If that Veteran chooses to share his/her e-mail address, it will be up to them to do so.
- Will I be allowed to call or visit my Veteran
: NO. We do not allow telephone or personal visits amongst adopters and those Veterans in Group Homes. This is a major concern for the VA Administration and we totally stand behind them.
- Is Angels 'n Camouflage affiliated with the VA Administration
: No. We work 'with' the VA Administration, but we are not employed by them.
: No. We are ALL Volunteers who spend a great amount of time working with the Organization. The only 'payment' we receive is the satisfaction of knowing we are making a difference.
- If I adopt a Veteran at home, will I be told why they are living in a Group Home
: NO. This is private and confidential information that we are legally not allowed to share. Only the Veteran will share this information, if they so choose.
