First off, my family would like to thank Melissa Harrison~Remy for the work she nurtures like her own child, Angels 'n Camouflage. When the opportunity to become involved came, I didn't even consult my husband first...I felt that he would articipate. So I joined, and we received our veteran. I forwarded the information to my husband in Iraq so that he could write to our veteran as well. We told our veteran to consider himself a member of our family. It has been our honor and pleasure to write to him and send him little 'forget-me-not' packages. Of course, when the request came for Army and 4th Infantry Division things, I knew that I could not send this to our veteran without providing something for all the veterans in the home. As a minister's daughter (my father is a Korean War veteran and retired officer from the chaplain corps U.S. Army), I was raised believing that if someone blesses you, that you in turn bless someone else. These are principles that we hold dear in our family. God has certainly been good to us. We are grateful for all he's done, so we do for others. Everywhere I go, I'm always thinking wonder if my veteran would like that. I've accumulated so much that I'm already several months ahead on my 'forget-me-not' packages. They just sit until time to send the next one. They have their special storage place. Each letter we get brings a smile to our face. My husband has called me from Iraq and told me that our veteran has written him too, and that as soon as he's done talking to me he's going to write him back. It's a family affair. This program does wonders for your spirit. Thanks for allowing us to be involved. The Lawhorn's Sam, Mary, and Samantha

Through the forum, Angels n' Camouflage I received support, assistance from experienced people, and a caring arena that allowed me to become stronger in my soldier support. My soldier was shipped out to Iraq and was unable to have any communications with me. With Angels n' Camouflage, I was informed on his and the actions of the war, and the conditions of what the soldiers as a whole were experiencing. the forum offered up tips on what type of mailing package were accepted and how to send a package off to my solider. Before becoming apart of this family forum, I was clueless on what items to send, and how exactly the manner in which to mail any items across the sea for my solider to receive needed items from home.I have never been apart of a forum that solely concentrates on soldiers' in active duty, and those who are now veterans. This kind of dedication and follow through was been inspirational to myself and others who are now able to take an active part in many soldier's lives. Angels n' Camouflage has given me some much support and comfort, I know it's mostly due to the Director, Missy Remy, who has taken up a personal pledge to assist and adopt out as many of the active soldiers, and now is dedicated in the adoption process of veterans, so that their lives, also will more enjoyable.DEBIE

I have adopted a Veteran though the Adopt a Veteran Program. Thus far this has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. My veteran is so thankful that there is someone in this world that "cares" about him. I am so thankful that I am able to provide a Veteran with a little encouragement and friendship and to let them know that they are not forgotten.JoAnne

have adopted a veteran. Slowly, through letters we are getting to know each other. He is a very nice gentleman. I can't think of a more rewarding thing to do than to let someone who fought for this country know that they are cared about. If you haven't done so already, I urge you to adopt a veteran. Its just a little time and effort out of your life but it means SO much to the veteran.Susan

As an 'Adopter' of one of our fine HEROES thru your "Adopt a Veteran" Program, I felt compelled to come in and tell everyone what a privilege and honor it has been to become an Angel n Camouflage! This has been the most rewarding experience of my life to be able to make a difference in the life of a Veteran who otherwise had no one to support him! Melissa, you are doing great things here and I can only imagine where Angels will be a year from now. On behalf of myself and my 'adopted father' THANK YOU!.. Andrew

I received my 4th letter from my adopted Vet today. He graciously thanked me for all I have sent. He sent me several pictures of different things he has made from scratch. I made the mistake of sending him a phone card. He thanked me for that but replied "Thanks for the phone card, but I will never use it. I have NO ONE to call". It brought tears to my eyes that this human that fought for our freedom literally has no one. I hope that he knows through my letters and special packages that someone does care and he is not forgotten.JoAnne

I have been so blessed writng to these guys that I asked for a 3rd. I have written to 2 for a while now and have a letter to the 3rd in the mail.  One of my guys said: "Your letter was certainly most welcome and such a wonderful surprise. Thank you for reaching out, as it is always great to meet new friends."  Those two sentences broght me to tears. To think that these guys are vets and don't get that much mail. I am so happy to be part of the Veteran Incarcerated program though Angels'nCamouflage.

Angels 'n Camouflage is a loving, caring community and I am delighted to belong to this wonderful family. I have seen how deeply affected all the Angels have been by their experiences and am proud that I have adopted two veterans myself, one of them part of the new Veterans Incarcerated program.
For the past 30 years I have been able to work, travel, educate myself, express my opinions without thought of retribution, and generally enjoy life - and I have never forgotten that it is because of veterans like my Dad and those men and women actively deployed that opportunities and options have always been within my reach. My only way of thanking these people who are keeping, and have kept, the free world free is to support and honor them, and this is the best way I can see to do that.
It takes so little time to be a beacon of light shining for these people who are putting, and have put, their lives on the line for us. Just a little time and a whole lot of love can show them that someone cares about them and appreciates their efforts.
The Veterans Incarcerated program lets us bring hope and inspiration to veterans who are all alone and think that they have been forgotten. By giving them 'mail call', treating them with kindness and offering them friendship, we are paving the way to better relationships during their incarceration and showing them that there are good, non-judgmental people outside who recognize what they did for their country.
I urge everyone to become actively involved. Now is the time to thank veterans and soldiers for all they do, not 'some day'.
Marni

Missy, I just wanted to let you know that I have found the Veterans Incarcerated Program to be a rewarding experience. All four of my adopted VI veterans have written me letters thanking me for taking the time to write letters and send cards to them. For a couple of "my guys", my letters are the only mail they receive other than legal papers. My adopted Vets write back to me quite often and it is so nice to hear from them and know I am helping to brighten their day! I commend you for how you have set everything up for "mail call" for the participating angels. You put the safety of the angels to the forefront when arranging this program with the VVA. Thank you for giving us an "anonymous" return PO Box address for these special veterans to write to us. Because the letters first come to you, I feel very safe in communicating with them and with your random checks of their mail to us (as well as them being checked by the prison before leaving there), I feel there is not going to be any problem in continuing to do so. I know there are many more VI veterans waiting to be adopted and pray that more angels take on this very special role in their lives. They are veterans who need to know that they have not been forgotten ... that they are worth something to someone, regardless of what they may have done wrong to land them where they are today.Blessings!Sandra Lee

Hi Melissa - I just had to share with you that one of our DeGeorge residents (name withheld for privacy) celebrated his birthday last Friday and he received two gifts from his angel and he was so excited! He showed everyone in the building his cards, candy and videos that he received and he said he couldn't remember the last time someone remembered his b'day with a gift.  Please tell your "Angel" thank you for making the day so special for him.  In the process of showing his gifts, several other residents have inquired as to how they can get a angel.....  Take care and stay in touch.  Lynda

Melissa - this is wonderful! Thank you for sharing this with me and for taking the time to encourage your angels to participate in this program.  I have been doing work this for ten years and am fully aware that there is still resistance to working with those who are incarcerated from the freeworld - even among other veterans groups. But, I have seen many men change and have seen what a difference it has made to them knowing that there is support and there are those who care. What you are doing will make such a change in their lives. It will bring comfort, encouragement and friendship to many who would not have had that if it weren't for people like the angels. I heard a letter Friday night that was written by a woman currently serving in the military and stationed in Iraq. Her letter was written to her boy friend who is incarcerated in TX. One of the references she made was that there isn't much difference between being incarcerated and serving in the military. Both have to follow rules and regs and answer to others - the obvious difference one is a punishment for bad choices and the other is serving and defending their country. Thought of your group when I heard her letter. It expressed how both face fear and isolation and separation from family and loved ones.  Thanks to people like yourself, you are making a difference for those in need. I hope you will share this message with the others and please tell them thank you from me and to please keep writing to them. As one of the writers said...they are still veterans, no matter what! Did you receive the packet that I sent from the veterans at the Ellis Unit? Hope it arrived safely. Take care and we are so thankful to have the angels in our lives. Lynda

Angels, We do what we do because of you. Your support and caring is so important to these great Sailors I serve with. I am inspired daily by their Honor, Courage and Committment to our country and our Navy. You put the exclamation point in why they do it! Sleep safe.
Command Master Chief USS Harry S. Truman

I would like to add my thanks to you and yours for the wonderful support your folks provided to members of our crew. I must say that I too wish we had started earlier.... I will be glad to let the waterfront know what great things you did for us. Thank you once again for your care and support. It gives us all one more example of what we are defending.
Very respectfully, Executive Officer USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67)

Melissa,
The pleasure has been all ours!! It is we who thank you for your support of our Sailors and Marines who are defending the freedoms we all get to enjoy. As this Thanksgiving Day approaches we have much to be thankful for...heading home to our families after a successful deployment, having a group of dedicated young men and women who are willing to fight to defend our freedom, and the love and support of exceptional people like you.
We often look at our sports figures as heroes.....I see 5200 heroes on JFK everyday and see you as heroes as well. God Bless all of you and your families over this holiday season.
Very Respectfully,
CMDCM(AW/SW/SS) Command Master Chief USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67)  "Don't Mess with Big John" "Mission First - Sailors Always"

Hello Miss Angel & Daughter -
I really enjoyed you visiting us the other day. As you can tell, we don't get much company out here so we enjoy seeing you and the little one everytime you come. I've been talking it over with my Case Worker and she thinks I needed to be adopted by one of you. Will you please let me in the Program? I'm not much of a writer myself but it would be nice to get a letter once in awhile. The men told me all I have to do is write to you and you will come and sign me up. Will you please come?
Your Friend,James (name and location withheld for Privacy)UPDATE: James was immediately adopted and although he stated he isn't much on writing, his Angel begs to differ - Missy

Dear Angels,
There are no words to say how appreciative I am for what you are doing for our men and women, especially my brother (name withheld for privacy). We lost contact with (xxxx) years ago because of his illness stemming from Nam. About a month ago just out of the blue we received a letter from (xxxx) and although most of it was about your Organization, we were so happy to hear from him! We've since received two more letters and I firmly believe that it is because of his association with your Program that he is inspired to stay in touch with us after all these years. We can't erase the past but we can look towards the future. Because of your Program, (xxxx) has hope for a brighter future and so do we.
God bless all of you and what you are doing,Mac Jenkins

I would like to say thank you for having this organization. I have received mail and even a package from the people who adapted me. They have been very wonderful. I enjoy writing them back. Thank you for everything.  Thank you,SGT Anthony

I was just dropping you a note to say that I have received one piece of mail from an angel thank you for what you are doing for the soldiers. It is important for all of us to get mail and I have to admit that I don't get any paper mail so this is nice. I email quite regularly, so a letter once in awhile will be a good change of pace for me.
SPC Letitia Garber

Dear Ms Harrison and Angels,
Words could never express the gratitude me and my family feel towards you and your organization.  We received our beautiful dogwood tree today and my father-in-law is planting it as we speak.  My husband was very proud of your organization and the good things you were doing for him and his Soldiers.  I'm just sorry that he isn't here to tell you himself, but find comfort in knowing that he is looking down and smiling over you.
Sincerely,
Anna ***** and Family

When I found Angels 'n Camouflage, the need and want to make a difference in someone's life, was deep. I thrive on being able to help someone, even if it is just a mustard seed size help. I found the mission of the organization to be one I felt I could believe, and support, as well as allow me to fill my need. Although I have fulfilled their mission a few times over, I never once thought that it would be the staff, members, and those I have adopted to turn my mission around and be the one to make a difference in my life. I have loved, but never loved back with the same aspects that I give, now I know what it is like to be equally loved in return.
Thank you AnC and God Bless

My name is Brie and I became an angel about 2 months ago. Before I got my adopted soldiers information, I was already fully involved in the great forums. When I recieved all of my information, I wrote my soldier the very first day! Ever since, I have recieved 3 mailed letters, and countless emails. It is absolutely amazing the joy I get from the shortest "Thanks for all of your support" emails. The cost of a stamp is 37 cents, but the price of picturing the smile on the face of someone who really needs the support is absolutely priceless. This is one of the best things I have ever done. Angels 'n Camouflage has played a major part in my everyday life. The staff and members alike are so supportive. This isn't just changing the life of a veteran, or a deployed service member, this is changing your life as well.

Hi my name is Kathy and I love this place. I became an angel about 2 months ago and when I started I became involved in a few of the programs on the site. Then I found the adopt a soldier and signed up for one well that is when the ball started rolling for me. I now have three deployed soldier and one from Veterans Incarcerated. I just also signed up for a Veteran. I am making lapagans for the Owl project and am involved with the card swaps. I am getting alot of enjoyment out of this and know that when our heros get their things they will also. This is a wonderful place to be for everyone involved.

I am very proud of our military, without them we would not have the freedoms that we now enjoy. I just want to give back as much as I can and say THANK YOU to all of our military past, present and future!
A very proud U. S. Army mom,
Tammy

My soldiers know me by Charlie or Casey(vets Inc.)
I love taking care of my soldier and my veteran. I look forward to the time on Sunday that I do my weekly letter and cards that I send to them. It is my way for thanking them for the sacrifice that they make for us. It seems like such a very small way to give back. I want them to know that they are not forgotten. I support them in all they do!

Being a member Angels 'n Camouflage has given me back so much more than I ever thought possible. I have adopted a disabled veteran who has become a very dear friend to me. When he is feeling good he writes often, when he is not doing good, the letters slow down, and I tend to worry about him just like any member of the family. We talk on holidays or birthdays and he is always excited to share what is going on with him. He lives in a group home and, through him, I also send holiday cards for everyone else in the home.
I have also had the opportunity to adopted several deployed members of our military. Fortunately, the first three I adopted have already returned safely home. All thanked me for my personal support and "adoption" of them. I currently have two adopted from whom I've yet to hear, but that is okay as I know they are busy doing their jobs and may not have time to write me ... doesn't stop me from supporting them.
I have also adopted nine Veterans Incarcerated with whom I exchange letters. I know a lot of people would be leary about writing someone who is in prison, but these guys are veterans and did serve our country, therefore they deserve my respect and recognition just as the others I've adopted do. Most of my guys have no one else in the outside who cares enough to communicate with them and I've got to tell you ... they really appreciate that I take the time to write them and they thank me often. They also send me cards and drawings as well as pictures of themselves taken by the VVA. One just recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, and I was as proud as if he was family.
In addition to all my adopted persons, I have made some very dear angel friends. The angels are very supportive of each other, as well as their adoptees. This truly is a great organization to be a part of and I am honored to call myself an Angel 'n Camouflage!  ~ Sandy

Happy Birthday Angels'ncamouflage!!!!! My name is Josephine Hernandez, aka AnC_Jozee. I am a recruiter for Angels'ncamouflage. I always wanted to become part of an organization and help people in some way. I was sitting here one day thinking to myself, "what can I so as a volunteer?" Men and Women in the Service!!! That's it!!!! I came across Angels'ncamouflage and was interested in this organization right away!!!! Our Men and Women have and still are laying down their lives for our great Country!!! God bless them all!!!! It makes me feel wonderful to know that I am helping and also bringing a smile to someone's face when they open up my mail and it is just as wonderful receiving their letters also. Missy you have outdone yourself, CONGRATULATIONS and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Thank you for asking me to be part of your Staff. Angels, I love you all!!!!

Dear Melissa, Dick, and Angels of AnC,
I wanted to take a moment and thank you for all that your organization and Angels did for my brother, *******.  The floral arrangement was beautiful and colors that I know ******* would have loved.  He is deeply missed but I know that his last couple of years with your organization were the best years in a long time for him.  May God bless you and keep you strong in your mission for our Veterans. ~ Joyce

Howdy Melissa,I'm Spc.Rex D.Laney presently serving in Iraq.I've had an angel from "AnC" since get go and I'm into my sixth month over here.  Now,I have THREE ANGELS writing to me and I answer every one!!!  These angels are truly "Angels". They have helped a great deal on our morale staying high.  We starve for mail from "home" and the angels are coming through in that dept, and the care packages,oh they are awsome!!  Speaking for myself and the guys in my platoon,we are like litte kids the way we act when we recieve care packages!!!  I've helped several in my platoon to sign up to be adopted.  Well Melissa, i'll close for now.  Hope I've said something that will might encourage the adopted soldiers to start writing their angels.  I know that I'm very thankful for my angels and I'm always letting them know by way of snailmail and emails.  Take care and God bless you and all your and our's ANGELS!!!!

Melissa, My name is Rob Biron. I was an activated Army Reserve Trauma Nurse stationed at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany from Jan. 04 through March 05. I sent alot of Pictures to you from the wounded there at LRMC. Your organization did a lot of work for our wounded warriors there at the hospital I was a distrubution point at one time for your volunteers to send gifts for the wounded. I wrote a book called "At The Bedside of Warriors" (It is in the process of being printed as we speak) chronicling my times with the wounded. The last chapter of my book tells of my experiences with the organizations that helped. Attached is that chapter.
Thank you for all you and AnC does for the Veterans and Wounded Warriors of our nation

Ms. Remy, I do not as of yet have a story for you other than to tell you that I have been corresponding with an "Angel" but due to no fault of anyone's the mail is very slow where I am at. We just started corresponding and I believe will continue to. So far we have been supporting each other in some of our life choices and I think will be very very beneficial to the both of us. I am saddened to hear of this in your email. I have my entire division of troops correlating and will follow up on the status of their responses. It's programs like yours that make us realize that what we do for our country is acknowledged positively from others who do not even know you. Do not let us forget what happened on 9-11 and why we are out here trying to prevent this or something like it again. How fast do others forget. I value this program so far and wish you the best in its success! R, TMCM (SW/AW) Collins

I would like to say when you guys send a care pack it makes a difference it is just when we get a letter from someone you don't know it is hard to responed when you don't know the person but I will tell you this we keep the letter close knowing that someone appreciate what we do and not talk bad about all people that are in the miltary but what I can tell you is that it makes my day thank you and everybody that take the time to try to make some military personals smile that they don't even know and let them knowsomebody cares about them we have a job to and who says that military people dont et down when the holidays come around we want to be with our family to it is just we have a job that want allow us to be with doing thoes time but you guys make up for it thanks and I would like to say keep on writing us because it keeps us from getting stess out when you smile. MM3 Adair, Roderich

Dear Angel' in Camouflage,
I wanted to say that this is wonderful thing that you guys are doing, and when I went to Iraq, I had tons of supporters and when I sent back due to an injury, there were angel'who wrote me and prayed for me, and I could never thank all those who sent me gifts and cards and letters of inspiration. It makes me smile everytime that I get a letter knowing that there are good people in this world who still support our troops and such. Please adopt a soldier, for just a simple letter of hope will give them much more to embrace then to know that no one cares. Thanks again!!!  Kelly

Melissa these stories fo the homeless vets are so sad and you do a wonderful job of taking care of them. I am busy collecting items I can donate. The vet I write to through AnC was living in a homeless shelter when I first started writing to him. He is an alcoholic, had alienated his family and didn't really try very hard to stay sober - because it didn't make a difference anyway, nobody cared! I have written to him often and sent gifts of clothing (he is also diabetic so no cookies). He has disabilities and is not able to work and it seemed he had pretty much given up. He has turned in to such a positive person now and is doing well. He said that just knowing that someone cared and feeling like part of our family has done amazing things for his attitude. He now shares an apartment with a couple of other guys - no more homeless shelters - and is back in touch with his wife. I don't think he will ever move back home permanently, but he lives closer to them now and has been visiting and will be spending 4th of July with his family. He writes that he had given up even trying and that my letters really helped him realize that he still has a lot to live for. While I feel great satisfaction in thinking I helped, I couldn't have done it without you and for ever veteran we help you are really responsible and should be very proud of what you do.
thanks for everything Suzie

I would like to thank the organization for all your support to all of us out here.  You all have helped us out through your letters and care packages.  I just want to let you know that what might seem to be very small, makes a big impact on u.   I just want to let you know that what might seem to be very small, makes a big impact on us over here.  By reading the letters, we get a sense of true patriotism of all of you that support us.  And the care packages are just important.  We don’t get many of the items over here that all of you send.  Once again, thanks to everyone at Angels ‘n Camouflage.
Thank you,
SSG Schneck
